Cataclysm & Tsunami Series

In the wake of terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, every artist was doing their part to process and articulate the experience. Whether we were doing it as a kind of therapy or with some social or political purpose in mind, we were participating in building a new national consciousness about the world and our place in it. The Cataclysm and Tsunami series of paintings comprise my particular artistic response. Although the Tsunami series suggests a natural disaster, it may also be seen as a metaphor. The Cataclysm paintings are more direct, representing explosive helicopter attacks as cyclopean death masks.
